The Department of Small and Local Business Development's Innovation & Equitable Development Office is partnering with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs to lead
a 10-week entrepreneurial training and technical assistance series for DC small
businesses summer 2018. This series will cover the basic Build a Dream
curriculum and Small Business Group Technical Assistance topics. First
course is Wed, June 6, 2018, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
NVLSP DD-214 Upgrade and Medical Retirement Clinic
The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs is hosting the National Veterans Legal Services Program for an information session on DD-214 Upgrades and Medical Retirement, followed by individual consultations with licensed attorneys. If you have questions about your discharge status or whether you qualify for medical retirement, come out and join us!

Come walk with Mayor Muriel Bowser for the Barracks Row 4th of July Parade!
The Barracks Row 4th of July Parade is on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. The parade starts at 10:00am and will take one hour from start to finish. The parade route begins at the I-295/395 overpass (at 8th and I Streets, SE) ending at the Eastern Market Metro Plaza.
Parade Lineup begins at 9:00AM

This year marks the 52nd Annual Palisades July 4th Parade & Picnic! Following the parade there is a free picnic for all at the Palisades Recreational Center 5200 Sherier Pl NW, Washington, DC 20016 featuring hot dogs, watermelon, drinks, live music and moon bounces.
Parade Lineup begins at 10:00AM
The Advisory Board serves as an advisory body to the Mayor, the Mayor's Office of Boards and Commissions, the Office of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Employment Services, the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, and other District government departments, agencies, and offices on all matters pertaining to Veterans in the District of Columbia All meetings are open to the public - please come out and join us!

2018 Marks the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela. As part of our Youth Engagement and Multicultural Awareness Program, the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs invites you to Fourth Annual Young African ConneXions Summit, themed “Living the Legacy” commemorating the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. The summit will feature the 2018 Mandela Washington Fellows for Young African Leaders Initiative(MWF-YALI), based at Howard University, community members in the District of Columbia, the African Diaspora Community, policy makers and civic leaders, engaged in a platform for a discussion around advocacy, volunteerism, leadership and community engagement, all inspired by the Madiba.
Breaking the Silence
Please join us for a special screening of Breaking the Silence: an Oral History of Oregon's LGBTQ Veterans and Service Members in our nation's capital. Presented Together in Partnership by the Human Rights Campaign, the D.C. Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs, and the D.C. Metropolitan Police.

Welcome Home Benefits Fair
The Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold
its annual Welcome Home Benefits Fair for Veterans and transitioning service members on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held in the Atrium and Transition and Care Management Welcome
Center at the medical Center, 50 Irving Street, N.W. in Washington, D.C.
The Welcome Home Benefits Fair is held to honor Veterans of
all eras by bringing a host of VA, local and community services together in one location at one time to provide a
critical pathway to VA benefits and services as well as community resources and information. The event
will also provide a one-stop venue for Veterans to enroll for VA health care; meet one-on-one with
Veterans Benefits Administration and Veterans Service Organization representatives who will
assist with VA claims and benefits; receive information from National Cemetery Administration
representatives about burial and memorial services; and community and local government partners who will offer
employment, mental health and reintegration support, legal assistance with DD-214 upgrade,
criminal record sealing and expungement.
