The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs has partnered with the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development to launch a monthly Veteran-Owned Business Stakeholders meeting. The aim of this meeting is to build stronger support for our local veteran businesses through government and community support. Overall, we are exploring the creation of programs to better serve the needs of the District's vetreprenuers.
TOPIC: Business Opportunities with D.C. Government
The focus of this months meeting is to distribute information and available opportunities for startups and long-term entrepreneurs that are interested in doing business with the District of Columbia Government
Guest speakers include representatives from DC Office of Contracts and Procurement and the Office of Notary Commissions & Authentications.
If you're a veteran entrepreneur that is interested in partnering with DC Government to scale your operations; this is the meeting for you! Come out to learn:
- Where to find opportunities to conduct business with DC government
- Required documents for successful solicitation submissions
- How to navigate the new automated DC Supply Schedule application process

The Department of Small and Local Business Development's Innovation & Equitable Development (IED)
Office is partnering with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs to lead
a 10-week entrepreneurial training and technical assistance series for DC small
businesses summer 2018. This series will cover the basic Build a Dream
curriculum and Small Business Group Technical Assistance topics. First
course is Wed, June 6, 2018, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

 Join us at 3:30 PM at 23rd and P Streets, NW to walk with the Bowser Administration at the Capital Pride Parade.
The Capital Pride Parade is one of Washington, DC's landmark parades. The Parade Starts at 23rd & P Streets, NW and travels through Dupont Circle and 17th Street and ends in the Logan Circle neighborhood. The Parade will include more than 180 contingents – floats, vehicles, walkers and entertainment.
 This all-day event celebrates “National Homeownership Month,” as promoted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Expo also has a District-centered theme of “June Housing Bloom,” which recognizes how the District produces and preserves affordable housing, spurs development in underserved communities and ensures that residents of all backgrounds can afford to live and thrive in the city.
Packed with Information for Current and Future Residents, and Small Businesses The Expo provides invaluable information and guidance for:
- Homeowners: Remodeling and repair demonstrations
- Homebuyers: Purchasing assistance resources
- Tenants: Knowing your rights
- Seniors: Aging in place planning

- Small Businesses: How to start and successfully grow a business
Also offered are FREE credit reports and credit counseling, as well as prizes and giveaways.
In addition, you have access to over 30 workshops and over 150 exhibitors—including government agencies, nonprofit community organizations, lenders and realtors.
In essence, the Expo is a ONE STOP SHOP for all the resources you are looking for related to housing and community development.
Do you need help filing your VA Disability Claim? If you answered yes - we have the help you need! The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a Department Service Officer every week to assist D.C. Veterans obtain the benefits they have earned as a result of their service.

Join Mayor Muriel Bowser along with the Mayor’s Offices on Latino (MOLA), African (MOAA), and Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA) for a celebration to kick off Immigrant Heritage Month here in the District. There will be an interactive art display, food trucks and performances showcasing the diversity of our city. Street Dance Party starts at 3:00 PM. Program begins at 4:00 PM.

 The District of Columbia Department of Disability Services has partnered with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs to provide dedicated vocational rehabilitation assistance to our veteran community. This program is separate and apart from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' vocational rehabilitation program. If you have been denied or are currently using the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' program, you may still be eligible for District assistance. Come speak with one of our counselors!

 The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs will be holding two round table discussions every month. If you are a D.C. Veteran with some ideas about how we can help our community, come out and join us!
Based on feedback from the veteran community we are updating our Round Table series. Going forward, one of our monthly round tables will be an open forum, much like past events. These open forum round tables will continue to be an opportunity for veterans to bring any concerns they may have and voice possible solutions. The second round table, will be dedicated to a particular topic, such as homelessness, employment, benefits, etc. At these topic based round tables, we will be joined by community service provides, veteran service organizations, and District agencies.
