Dear
Washingtonians,
On Monday, I joined community members to break ground on a project that has been a long time coming - the revitalization of Parkway Overlook in Congress Heights. Parkway Overlook has been vacant for over a decade, but on Monday, we started the process of transforming the boarded-up apartment complex into 220 units of affordable housing, mostly two- and three-bedroom units that can accommodate our families.
With this $82.2 million rehabilitation, we are making it possible for longtime residents to return to Parkway Overlook and for more families to secure the housing and community services they need to get their fair shot. And with my recently proposed budget, we will ensure that thousands more Washingtonians get their fair shot. In fact, we have allocated more than $1.3 billion to programs and efforts that will make living in the District more affordable.
Through our new Roots to Roofs DC campaign, which builds on my African American prosperity initiatives, we are making sure Washingtonians know about the many programs we're funding. The idea behind Roots to Roofs DC is simple: As Washington, DC grows, we’re going to make room for everyone, especially our residents who put down roots long ago.

Sincerely,
Mark your calendar: This year, the District will celebrate Emancipation Day on Saturday, April 14 with a parade, concert, and fireworks.
