Message from the Director
In honor of Black History Month, New Communities is proud to
highlight the many Black-owned businesses that help make our work in the
four NCI neighborhoods meaningful. Watch
NCI’s Twitter feed all this month to connect with us and learn more about these businesses who
add to our success every day.
There are development firms like Dantes Partners and The Warrenton
Group, who both partner with large national nonprofits on projects in Park
Morton, Northwest One, and Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings. Their partnerships are a prime example of how
small, local, minority-owned firms build capacity and grow by partnering with larger organizations on large,
multi-phase development deals.
There are communications and community engagement firms like
Ghost Note Agency and Brick & Story, who have exponentially increased our engagement with residents and stakeholders in all of our communities
over the past year. Both companies are part
of the brains behind the launch of our monthly newsletters and our NeighborUp
networks.
There are also neighborhood businesses like Heat Da Spot and
Penny Brew Coffee, who have both provided space for some of our many community
gatherings as well as delicious food and drink for the neighbors who join us.
This list goes on, so check out @DC_NCI on Twitter to learn more! Also, stay tuned to our website (www.dcnewcommunities.org) to keep
tabs on what we’re up to and don’t forget to email us at dc.newcommunities@dc.gov with ideas,
questions, or concerns. If you're interested in learning about what's happening in other neighborhoods, sign
up here for a neighborhood-specific newsletter.
Thank you for your interest in and commitment to the New Communities Initiative.
Sincerely,
Angie Rodgers Director, New Communities Initiative
