VA Disability Claims Assistance

Do you need help filing your VA Disability Claim?  If you answered yes - we have the help you need!  We will be hosting a Department Service Officer every week to assist D.C. Veterans obtain the benefits they have earned as a result of their service.

D.C. Vocational Rehabilitation For Disabled Veterans 

The District of Columbia Department of Disability Services has partnered with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs to provide dedicated vocational rehabilitation assistance to our veteran community. This program is separate and apart from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' vocational rehabilitation program.  If you have been denied or are currently using the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' program, you may still be eligible for District assistance.  Come speak with one of our counselors!

DC Veteran Business Stakeholder Meeting

The DC Mayor's Office of Veteran's Affairs is partnering with the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development to launch a monthly Veterans' Business Stakeholders group. The aim of this group is to build a strengthen support for our local Veteran Business community through government and community supports. Overall, DSLBD is exploring the creation of a DC Veterans' Business Center.

Advisory Board Meeting

The Advisory Board serves as an advisory body to the Mayor, the Mayor's Office of Boards and Commissions, the Office of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Employment Services, the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, and other District government departments, agencies, and offices on all matters pertaining to Veterans in the District of Columbia  All meetings are open to the public - please come out and join us!

Boots To Business Reboot

Boots to Business Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge on the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources.

Atlantic 10 Salute to Military Night

On Thursday March 8, 2018 the Atlantic 10 is hosting Salute to the Military during is Men’s Basketball Conference Tournament Championship.  The Atlantic 10 Conference is an association of 14 institutions of higher education that is committed to education, fair play, competition and community engagement.  Each year, when we host our A10 Men’s Basketball Championship, we create programs to engage the local community.  This year we are hosting our annual men’s basketball championship in Washington, DC (at the Capital One Center which was formally the Verizon Center) and created Salute to the Military as a way honor and thank active duty military, retired military and their families.  On Thursday March 8, 2018 we are inviting all military personnel and their families to be our guest during our tournament.  There will be two games that occur during this session.  The first game is tentatively scheduled to begin at approximately 6 p.m. and the second game will occur 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.  This event is compliments of the Atlantic 10 Conference, our member institutions and our sponsors.  We are honored to provide all active duty military, retired military and their families with complimentary tickets for the evening session of games on March 8, 2018.  Throughout the games we will honor military service and thank the men and women who protect us and provide the freedom that is the hallmark of this country.

The 14 institutions that make up the Atlantic 10 are Davidson College, University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Fordham University, George Mason University, George Washington University, LaSalle University, University of Massachusetts, University of Rhode Island, University of Richmond, St. Bonaventure University, St. Joseph’s University, St. Louis University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

DC Hires Vets 2018

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs in partnership with DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR) and the DC National Guard will host the second DC Hires Vets event offering veterans the opportunity to connect with District and Federal agencies as well as private sector companies. Select participating agencies will conduct interviews and make contingent job offers on-the-spot.

Who: All veterans are invited to attend.

What: "DC Hires Vets” will offer veterans the opportunity to meet, apply, and be interviewed for positions with the District of Columbia government and private sector corporations. Further, veterans can meet directly with District agencies and those Federal agencies that provide services to veterans.

Pat Tillman Scholarship Applications

Dog Tag Fellowship Applications

The Dog Tag Inc. Fellowship works in partnership with Georgetown University to deliver a professional development program designed to prepare military veterans with service connected disabilities, military spouses and caregivers to find success as they transition into the civilian workforce. Dog Tag Inc.'s Fellowship program combines business and entrepreneurship coursework, ample personal development opportunities, and hands-on rotations throughout Dog Tag Bakery, our small business venture. Over the course of five months, Fellows explore a variety of career paths, learn about and how to utilize available resources, and establish vast personal and professional networks as they develop a strategic plan for achieving personal and professional fulfillment post-service. 

The 5-month fellowship program provides:

• 7 courses in Business Administration from the School of Continuing Studies at Georgetown University.
• Scheduled rotations within different areas of the bakery and nonprofit.
• Learning lab series with guest speakers discussing lessons learned running a business, workshops in the power skills for business success, and specialized courses on telling your story.
• Networking opportunities with business leaders both inside and outside of the program.
• Intangible skills that are valuable in the civilian workplace.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Post 9/11 Military Veteran with service-connected disability, caregiver or spouse
• Eager to learn and engage in professional development
• Preparing for a career in the civilian workforce
• Able to provide his or her own transportation to and from the bakery and school

Veterans In Global Leadership Fellowship Applications

Veterans in Global Leadership (VGL) is currently accepting applications from exceptional student veterans for the 2018-2019 year-long fellowship program. We seek a diverse group of fellows with a range of personal and professional backgrounds and service histories, including both former officers and enlisted personnel. Strong preference for candidates with a passion for service, a commitment to assist other veterans, an entrepreneurial spirit, and proven leadership skills. Women and minorities are highly encouraged to apply.

Fellowship Eligibility Requirements:

• U.S. student veteran
• Honorable discharge
• Minimum 3.2 GPA and good academic standing with the university

To be considered for this program, interested parties must submit the form below and attached the following documents:

• Current resume
• Transcripts from undergraduate institution and graduate school (if applicable)
• One letter of recommendation
• Copy of Form DD214 (Blackout any sensitive information)
• Current professional photo/headshot
• Two short essays:
• What are your short-term and long-term career goals? How would being a VGL fellow help you achieve these goals? (500-word maximum)
• What scholarship or fellowship are you interested in applying to and how do you think that scholarship and its community would help you achieve your goals? (500-word maximum)

• Optional: We have your resume, transcripts, and letter of recommendation. Is there anything else we should take into consideration when evaluating your application? (250-word maximum)

Application Deadline: 30 April 2018. We will notify accepted fellows June 1st via email.
