Clarifying Right to Return

Last year, the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) Board of Commissioners passed Resolution 16-06 to set a relocation and right to return policy for NCI developments.  The policy clarified the profile of residents who have a right to return, and established guidance to ensure that residents eligible for public housing will also be eligible for new units without additional barriers to entry. Every Day Counts! Initiative Launches

The District has launched the Every Day Counts! Campaign to ensure every student attends school every day.  Did you know that missing just one or two days of school per month can set children back academically, and could lead to them dropping out altogether?  Click below to learn more, and to sign the Every Day Counts Pledge!

    Ward 8 Works - Overcoming Criminal Background Challenges

    The next Ward 8 Works (W8W) session will feature an informational panel about overcoming criminal background challenges to getting jobs in construction.  When Ward 8 Works was launched in April, a number of participants identified criminal background as a potential barrier to employment.  The next event will bring together representatives from the Public Defender Service of the District of ColumbiaDC Department of Employment ServicesMayor’s Office on Returning Citizen AffairsGeneral Services Administration/St. Elizabeth’s West Campus, and residents who have worked with W8W service providers to get and maintain employment despite background challenges.  Current W8W participants should click here to register ahead for the session, which will take place on October 13th from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Barry Farm Recreation Center, 1230 Sumner Road SE.  Click below for more information.
