Dear Washingtonians,
Earlier this week, I visited Canada with Virginia Governor
Terry McAuliffe and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan as part of a regional trade mission. The goal of the trip was to promote tourism,
trade, and diplomatic relations between the Capital Region and Canada. Together, we shared ideas for expanding inclusive innovation, growing our global investment market, and working together to improve the lives of residents in both countries and across our region.
As we know from experience, it is not only helpful for our region to work together on issues that affect all three jurisdictions, it is necessary. From ending the opioid crisis to maintaining Metro, there are some problems that will not be solved if our leaders and experts work in isolation. So, over the past year, we have made regional collaboration a top priority. Last October, we hosted the first regional meeting in Washington, DC, where the governors and I signed the National Capital Region Compact to Combat Opioid Addiction. In March, we came together again in Maryland at the Regional Opioid and Substance Abuse Summit. And recently, on the same day that we announced the Canada mission, we met in Virginia to talk about a variety of issues, including how to fund and maintain Metro so that the region continues to have a world-class, multi-modal transportation system.
The Capital Region is strong and getting stronger. Collaboration has never been more necessary, and I look forward to continuing to represent Washington, DC in this important work.
Sincerely,
This Saturday, join Mayor Bowser at DPR Rec Day, a
free sports and recreation festival full of fun and engaging activities for the
entire family.
Rec Day will feature food,
giveaways, and live music from Proper Utensils featuring Jas Funk and
Pan Masters Steel Drum Orchestra. Activities will include: rock
climbing, bubble soccer, pickleball, kickball, yoga, Zumba, spin cycling class, a moon bounce, face painting, amateur boxing, and a teen fashion show, and more.
