The 5201 Hayes Street project continues to make construction progress. Last month, NCI staff and the development team presented and took questions from residents regarding the lease-up process for 50 replacement public housing units that will be in the new building. The project will deliver a total of 150 units that are affordable to households under 60% Area Median Income (AMI), with the replacement public housing units being deeply affordable. The project will also include units with multiple bedrooms to accommodate larger families. This development is part of making "Build First" a reality for Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings, where we intend to redevelop the communities without displacing residents from their neighborhood. This progress kickstarts a wave of new development in a corridor where it has been historically difficult to get projects going, and begins the realization of the "Town Center" at the corner of Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave and Division Ave that was envisioned in the original master plan. Construction should be completed by late Spring of 2018. The property will be named the "Residences at Hayes", and will be managed by Pennrose Property Management. 

Significant progress has been made on the redevelopment of the historic Strand Theatre located at the corner of Division Ave NE and Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE. The Strand Theatre development team, composed of The Warrenton Group and The National Housing Partnership, closed on the acquisition of several adjacent parcels that will allow for the construction of 86 units of affordable housing and the renovation of the historic theatre into community and retail space. The Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed Planned Unit Development for the mixed-use project on November 16, 2017. 

DC SCORES has been building teams and community through its programming in the Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings neighborhood for several years now, serving students from Kelly Miller Middle School and its feeder elementary schools.  “We really try to create different ways for students to find success, whether it’s on the soccer field or in the classroom,” says Sean Hinkle, Chief Program Officer. The DC SCORES program combines the sport of soccer with a robust poetry and service-learning curriculum.
