Statement from Mayor Bowser on the Passing of Ed Potillo
On Thursday, August 10, 2017, Mayor Bowser released the following statement on the passing of Ed Potillo:
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Potillo, a native Washingtonian who grew up in Ward 4's Brightwood neighborhood, graduated from St. John's College High School, and later loved serving his neighbors in Ward 7. He was a mentor to many people - young and some a bit older - who, like him, wanted to make their neighborhood, ward, and city a better place. We stood shoulder to shoulder for statehood and DC values last summer in Philadelphia and many times around the District. Ed will be greatly missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and the Ward 7 community.”
Ed Potillo was an American politician, vice-chairman of the District of Columbia Democratic State Committee, and the Conference and Membership Director for the National Alliance of
Black School Educators.

Two of six African teens who went missing from robotics
competition are in Canada, D.C. police say
This is what's known about six teens from Burundi who came to D.C. to participate in an international robotics competition and disappeared on the last day of the event.
Hordes of teenagers displaying colors and flags from 157
countries cheered wildly in DAR Constitution Hall on Tuesday afternoon,
exhausted and exhilarated from two days of robotics competitions. Somewhere on
the packed auditorium floor, six teenagers from Burundi quietly slipped away
amid the closing gala.
According to D.C.
police, the 16 to 18 year olds from the small African country were long
gone by the time their chaperone reported them missing early Wednesday and
police later posted their photos on the Internet . By Thursday morning, police said Don Charu Ingabire, 16, and Audrey Mwamikazi, 17, were in Canada with
friends or family and the other four were somewhere in the U.S., not yet with
relatives but believed to be safe.
