Dear Washingtonians,
With June just around the corner, now is the time to ensure that we are setting our children and teens up for success during the summer months. Our young people are safer when they are under the care and supervision of responsible adults, and they are more likely to succeed in school when they are exposed to new learning opportunities throughout the summer.
To keep young Washingtonians engaged, safe, and learning while they are out of school, my Administration offers a range of resources and activities for youth of all ages. From the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program to reading programs to cheerleading, taekwondo, and
engineering, there is something for everyone. As of today, registration is still open for DCPS Summer Learning Programs and the Department of Parks and Recreation's (DPR) summer programming. In addition, DPR still has space open at multiple summer camps at recreation centers around DC.
Of course, these programs only keep young people engaged when their families know about them and are able to access them. You can help by spreading the word about summer.dc.gov, a one-stop shop for all things summer.
When our young people succeed, our entire community succeeds. Working together, we can ensure that more young Washingtonians stay safe this summer and go into next school year refreshed and ready to learn.
Sincerely,
In March, Mayor Bowser announced six steps the District is taking to protect vulnerable young people in Washington, DC, and yesterday, the Mayor gave an update on the Administration's progress. Read about the Mayor's update HERE.
