On April 28, the D.C. Department of the Disabled American Veterans held its 96th annual convention. Director Ely S. Ross joined Commander Nachee Miller to open the convention and present the D.C. DAV with a proclamation from Mayor Bowser recognizing the D.C. DAV's work in the community and service to their fellow veterans. Keep up the great work!
On April 27, MOVA joined DHS, several community partners, and District agencies at the New York Avenue men's shelter to provide resources for individuals experiencing homelessness. MOVA looks forward to supporting future DHS resource fairs to support all of our veteran residents in All 8 Wards.
Our First D.C. Veterans Round Table
On April 26, MOVA held its first veterans round table at our new office location. We hosted several D.C. veterans from Ward 7. We were joined by members of the Mayor's Veterans Affairs Advisory Board, Give an Hour, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Experience Team. Everyone came with great ideas about veteran programs and outreach. Check out the Upcoming Events section for more information about upcoming round table events.

currently accepting applications for summer work studies! VA Work Studies are paid DC minimum wage
(currently $11.50/hour, non-taxed!). Applicants must be attending summer

Veteran Round Table Discussions
The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs will be holding two round table discussions every month over the summer. If you are a D.C. Veteran with some ideas about how we can help our community, come out and join us! Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 24, at 12 pm. If you would like to participate, just give us a call!
DC Small Business Boot Camp

Are you a DC resident? Are you a member of the military community (active duty, Veteran, National Guard or Reserves) or a military spouse? And are you thinking about starting, or have you recently started, a small business?
If you answered "yes" to all three questions - then the DC Small Business Boot Camp is for you!
Before you register your business, create a website, go after funding, sign a lease or hire employees, you need to determine if you business idea is feasible. This one day intensive workshop is designed to introduce prospective entrepreneurs to the fundamentals of small business start-up and to help you determine the feasibility of your business idea. We will focus on your business concept, industry and market analysis, small business economics and financial forecasting - and introduce you to the resources to help you start and grow your business.

Purpose:
The
purpose for the Mental Health Summit is to bring together key stakeholders in
the community with the goal of enhancing access to mental health services and
addressing the mental healthcare needs of Veterans and their family members
residing in the Washington DC area. This
year’s summit will focus on Justice Involved veterans. We hope to bring
together mental health providers from the community and the VA, along with
select members of law enforcement, including judges and police. We
plan on having an array of different stake holders to include people and
organizations serving veterans, law enforcement, veterans, and family
