Veteran Transition Workshop 

On Saturday, April 8, Director Ely S. Ross joined the Travis Manion Foundation for a veteran transition assistance workshop and networking event.  It was a great opportunity to provide veterans and active duty service members with local resources to ease their transition from military service.

Budget Oversight Hearing 

On Friday, April 7, MOVA Director Ely S. Ross provided testimony on Mayor Bowser's FY 2018 budget proposal.  Thank you to all of the veterans and members of the community who joined Councilmember Todd and the Committee on Government Operations.

D.C. AMVETS Because We Care Day

On Wednesday, April 5, MOVA Director Ely S. Ross joined D.C. AMVETS at the Washington D.C. Medical Center for their annual Because We Care Day

We were joined by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Shulkin.

In recognition of AMVETS' service to our nation's veterans, Mayor Bowser issued a proclamation establishing April 5, 2017, as "Because We Care Day."  Director Ross presented the proclamation to AMVETS D.C. Post Commander Smith. 


Veteran Roundtable

On Friday, March 31, 2017, MOVA joined the NAACP-D.C. Veterans Committee, the D.C. National Guard, and local D.C. American Legion - Nash Post #8 for a Veterans Roundtable.  

District of Columbia veterans and their family members were invited to offer feedback and ideas of interest to D.C. veterans.  

We look forward to hosting more roundtable events throughout the District!

Last week, Mayor Bowser delivered her 2017 State of the District Address. Watch the address HERE, and read it HERE.


Budget


This week, Mayor Bowser presented “DC Values in Action,” the DC Fiscal Year 2018 Budget and Financial Plan, to the DC Council. From again investing $100 million in the Housing Production Trust Fund to allocating more than $1 billion in full-scale school modernizations, this budget will ensure that more residents have a roadmap to inclusive prosperity.

Veterans Employment Trajectory (VET) Initiative

Call for Mentors

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is seeking Veteran Mentors to assist and provide guidance for student veterans beginning their transition to their civilian careers. Each mentor will be paired with a student veteran participant based on their career focus and aspiration. During the meetings (once a month) the mentor will work with their mentored in workforce preparedness, career coaching and professional networking, providing their unique guidance and experience for the student veteran and the Veteran’s Employment Trajectory (VET) Initiative.

 To confirm your interest in serving as a mentor for the VET Initiative, please email veterans@twc.edu. A member of the VET Initiative team will followup with you with additional information and next steps.

A Mission Continues Fellowship involves 20 hours of service per week for 26 weeks at a local nonprofit organization. Fellows are encouraged to choose a nonprofit organization to serve based on their own personal passions.  The deadline for applying to The Mission Continues Fellowship for the Charlie Class is April 17, 2017.  Click here for more information.
