Happy Holidays!

It’s officially winter! Late last week, the District’s Snow Team was deployed to address the wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet. As a result, leaf collection services were suspended to deploy equipment and personnel to respond to the inclement weather. Now that winter has arrived and the holidays are upon us, DPW crews are working very hard to collect the remaining leaves. Please be reminded that DPW will collect holiday trees and greenery from the curb in front of your home through January 27th. You can also bring your holiday trees and greenery to Fort Totten Transfer Station for composting. Be sure to check the DPW Website, www.dpw.dc.gov for the latest news and information.

Before and After

Ward 7 Leaf Crew Mannequin Challenge Video Goes Viral! (click here for video)

DPW leaf collection crews have been working to keep the city safe from slippery leaves that can cause falls or ignite fires (which can be caused by the catalytic converter igniting the leaves beneath the car). DPW has approximately 150 workers who have so far covered more than 870 miles in their efforts to vacuum fallen leaves. To date, the crews have collected more than 2,595 tons of leaves from every ward of the city, the largest percentage of which (26 percent) are collected from Ward 3. DPW held a "Twitter Talk" (Web chat using Twitter only) to provide leaf collection facts and tips on December 15. The agency will be collecting leaves through January 14, 2017.
