Non-District of Columbia residents who regularly park their vehicles in the District overnight may be able to apply for the ROSA exemption. ROSA is the Registration of Out-of-State Automobiles, and the application can be submitted online. Please note that with a ROSA exemption, vehicle owners are still required to follow the parking regulations. ROSA is not an exemption for a Residential Parking Permit. 

DC DMV’s online services are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, except the Road Skills Test Appointment Calendar, which is unavailable from 12am-1am.Skip the Trip. Visit our website and complete your DC DMV business on your schedule. Go to dmv.dc.gov.

On Wednesdays, All DC DMV Locations Open One Hour Later

Every Wednesday, since March 31, 2016, all DC DMV locations open one hour later to allow the agency to provide consistent training and accurate communication to employees. Closing time remains the same.

Happy Holidays! DC DMV Will be Closed for Christmas and New Year's

Happy Holidays

In observance of Christmas, all DC DMV locations will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24th and Monday, Dec. 26th. For New Year's, DC DMV will be closed on Saturday, December 31st and Monday, January 2, 2017.

There is usually an increase in customer volume before and after holiday closings. Customers are encouraged to view the wait times and waiting area webcams online for the Service Centers and Adjudication Services prior to an in-person visit. #KnowBeforeYouGo. Visit dmv.dc.gov to be prepared to successfully complete your transaction in one trip.  

DC DMV Complies with Federal Credit Card Payment Regulations

Credit Cards

DC DMV complies with federal regulations regarding the use of credit cards, so to utilize the online services and pay with a credit card, use browsers with minimum version requirements, such as:

  • Mozilla Firefox 27, released in 2014
  • Safari 7, released in 2013
  • Internet Explorer 11, released in 2013
  • Google Chrome 22, released in 2012
  • iOS 5, released in 2011.
