Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs Job Bulletin December 2016
2016 is quickly coming to a close and the holidays give many of us an
opportunity to think about the directions we want to take our careers in the
coming year. The Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ
Affairs is gearing up to focus our efforts on helping LGBTQ Washingtonians get
an opportunity to join the middle class by helping residents access job
readiness and workforce development opportunities. In addition to community
engagement the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs works closely with DC government
agencies like the Department of Employment
Services (DOES), Department of Human Resources
(DCHR) and the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments
(MOTA) by providing technical assistance to ensure that opportunities to work
in the District of accessible to anyone regardless of their gender identity,
gender expression or sexual orientation.
In 2017, we are looking forward to launching projects with the Department
of Employment Services in order to address the added barriers that transgender
and gender non-conforming residents face in their careers. Last year, the DC Office of Human Rights
published ‘Qualified
and Transgender’ which detailed the employment discrimination that
transgender workers face. Our efforts
will focus on increasing job readiness, increasing access to wrap-around
services for the chronically employed and on-going coaching and support for
LGBTQ workers.
