Dear Washingtonians,
Today, I am flying to Mexico City to represent the District of Columbia at a gathering of mayors and other leaders of the world’s major cities who are working to fight and mitigate climate change. We are holding this meeting - the largest since the Paris climate accords last year - because we know the health and well-being of future generations depend on the actions we take now. This summit is a remarkable opportunity to learn about cutting-edge work being done in other global cities and to share lessons from the work we are pioneering here in Washington, DC.
Today, Washington, DC is at the forefront of decisive, effective action to slow and adapt to climate change. Since 2006, we have reduced our annual carbon emissions by more than 23 percent. We are committed to cutting our greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2032, and by 80 percent by 2050. Under my administration, we have made ground-breaking deals to generate more than one-third of the power used in government buildings with wind and locally generated solar electricity. In fact, by 2032 - just 16 years from now - we will derive at least one-half of the entire city’s electricity from renewable resources.
In Washington, DC, we will tackle climate change head on as we continue our hard work in building a resilient city for generations to come.

Today, in honor of World AIDS Day, Mayor Muriel Bowser, through a public-private partnership, released the 90/90/90/50 Plan: Ending the HIV Epidemic in the District of Columbia by 2020.
The plan was developed to achieve the following core goals: 90 percent of DC residents with HIV will know their status; 90 percent of persons diagnosed with HIV will be in treatment; 90 percent of persons in treatment will achieve viral load suppression; and the District will see a 50 percent decrease in new HIV cases.

This week, Mayor Muriel Bowser released Pathways to Inclusion, the District’s first-ever report on the current state of inclusion in our tech, innovation, and entrepreneurship economy. The report highlights the barriers underrepresented communities face upon entering an industry vital to Washington, DC’s economic growth and sets bold goals to expand opportunities for District residents.
The release of the report coincided with the launch of Beacon: The DC Women Founders Initiative, a campaign dedicated to making the District the top city in the country for women founders and entrepreneurs. Launched in partnership with the Georgetown Institute for Technology Law & Policy, Google and other innovation thought leaders, the goals of the initiative are to provide dedicated grant funding to organizations that offer resources, mentoring and other support to women founders in the DC area.

On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser announced the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) Small Business Enterprise (SBE) spending goal and unveiled this year’s SBE Opportunity Guide, better known as the Green Book. The SBE Opportunity Guide is designed to help SBEs better navigate the local government procurement process.
In FY16, the Bowser Administration spent $600 million with SBEs, surpassing their goal by over $280 million. The Administration will spend $564 million with SBEs in FY17.

On Saturday, December 10, we are excited to bring you EdFEST 2016, DC’s only citywide public school fair. At the event, representatives from more than 200 public schools in Washington, DC will showcase their programs.
EdFEST is an opportunity to ask questions about schools and their related services and programs before the launch of the My School DC common lottery application on December 12, 2016. The event will also have many free services such as flu shots and immunizations. Admission and parking are free, and interpretation in American Sign Language, Spanish, Amharic, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and French will be available throughout the day.

The mission of the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS) is to preserve life and promote health and safety through excellent pre-hospital treatment and transportation, fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue activities and homeland security awareness.
FEMS has an opening for a supply technician. This position is responsible for monitoring medication inventory levels and coordinating the preventive maintenance and repair of Cardiac Monitors and Defibrillators.
