Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Every day, caregivers across our city do the important and often unseen work of providing care to their loved ones.  They are there for their family and friends, and I believe we should be there for them.

Last week, I signed the CARE Act into law.  This legislation requires that hospitals give caregivers the information and tools they need to make their loved ones' transition from hospital to home as successful as possible.  This eases the strain on caregivers, and it reduces the likelihood that a patient will need to return to the hospital.

It is our creed that every resident should be able to live in this city, independently, for as long as they choose.  That’s what an age-friendly DC is all about.

So as we continue to commemorate Older Americans Month, let's remember to celebrate the contributions of our older residents and make DC a place that they can always call home.

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser

Take Your Seat at the Statehood Table

statehood

Last week, at President Lincoln's Cottage, the New Columbia Statehood Commission (NCSC) released its draft Constitution to help our city take the next step towards statehood. Tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Gallaudet University the NCSC will host its first working group meeting. Attend this week's working group and join the effort to help DC achieve statehood and full representation in Congress.

Whether you were on the edge of your seat watching the battle of the bands in Congress Heights or enjoying the funky fresh outfits on U Street, you'll admit that our city knows how to have a good time. Mayor Bowser walked in both parades - throwing beads, hugging residents and chatting it up.
