Each year, the world pauses to acknowledge the extraordinary
advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals living with Parkinson’s
disease. The Parkinson's Foundation collaborates
with organizations, advocates, caretakers, and researchers to increase awareness
and encourage those touched by the disease.
During the month of April, events are coordinated worldwide to educate, fundraise
and uplift communities.
Parkinson’s disease is caused when the brain stops
producing a neurotransmitter called dopamine.
With a decrease in dopamine, the individual no longer has the ability to
regulate their movements, body, and emotions.
Early detection is important. Presently, there is no cure,
but advance treatments and therapy are available.
10 Symptoms of Parkinson's
- Tremors or Shaking
- Changes in handwriting
- Loss of Smell
- Difficulty Sleeping
- Challenges Moving or Walking
- Constipation
- Change in voice volume
- Facial Expression
- Stooping or Hunching
- Dizziness or Fainting
People diagnosed with Parkinson's are encouraged to maintain a healthy diet, and rearrange items
within the home to prevent injuries.
