Background

Bruce Kirschner retired from the U.S. Government in July 2012 after 34 years of faithful and proud service to the American people. He had previously served as Senior Program Director for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM’s) Western Management Development Center (WMDC), which is now located in Denver, Colorado. The WMDC provides residential learning programs to enhance the leadership and management skills of high performing public sector supervisors, managers, and executives from the U.S. and all over the world. Bruce was responsible for managing a number of WMDC seminars and programs, including the Leadership Foundations Seminar, Team Building and Team Leadership, Leadership Skills for Non-Supervisors, the Colorado Leadership Development Program, the Utah Leadership Development Program, the New Mexico Leadership Development Program and other courses. In 2007 he accepted an 18- month assignment to serve as Lines of Business Transformation Manager for OPM’s Center for Leadership Capacity Services, where he led a major organization-wide change effort for this part of the agency.

Bruce began his Federal career as a participant in the first class of Presidential Management Interns in 1978. Prior to coming to OPM, Bruce was a Project Manager for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Western Area Power Administration, a Federal hydroelectric power marketing agency with headquarters in Lakewood, Colorado. He began his U.S. service with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.

Great with kids, cats, and dawgs!

Sissy is my name. My mom became very ill and passed away. That's how I came to Colorado to be with the Fairy Dawg Mother. I'm an older dog, but often feel like a youngster.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE squeaky dog toys. My foster parents have a basket full of dog toys that I enjoy emptying out in order to find the perfect one. My favorite thing to do is romp around and toss it in the air.

I am a fast learner and quickly learned how to use the dog door at my fosters home. I get along fabulously with other dogs, cats and young kids. In my down time I enjoy sleeping on the couch or bed, especially the seat under the window. I am shy at first and a little hesitant, but just give me a little time and I'll warm up.

I am completely potty trained and walk well on a leash. I know a couple of simple commands too! I would like to live in a home with a nice family that has a nice fenced yard. I would like room to run and play with the kids that live there. The kids will be very gentle and kind. No one will ever hit me or yell. A caine brother or sister would be great and maybe a kitty too! No ferrets or guinea pigs though-they remind me of squeaky toys.

Sissy's adoption fee includes all vaccinations and lifetime enrollment on her microchip. She is currently being fostered in Littleton, Colorado.

Community Events

Urban Peak

Urban Peak is a homeless shelter for teens. They are required to go to school or have a job. It’s not just a place to sack out, as some would think. We are looking for more volunteers to help provide and serve food the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There are a group of federal employees that get there around 5 and 6 and are usually done by 7. There is no dishwashing or cleanup involved. The teens take care of that. They are always so appreciative of what the volunteers do. It’s a wonderful way to feel like you are making a difference in a young persons life.

The group volunteers at the S. Bannock location. If you are interested in helping please contact Michael Nestlehut Michael.Nestlehut@onrr.gov.
