Dear
Neighbors:
Congratulations to all our Ward 4
graduates! I was honored to be able to
speak at a number of graduations over the past few weeks, including Ward 4’s
own Roosevelt High School, Coolidge High School, and Lafayette Elementary
School. To all our students who were
promoted from their existing grades to continue their education and who
graduated from high school – job well
done! Finally, hats off to the
graduates’ family and friends for all the encouragement and support throughout
the years.
Last week, Councilmember Bowser participated in a Committee of the
Whole Hearing on the “Public-Private Partnership Act of 2013.” Councilmember
Bowser introduced this legislation, along with Councilmember David Grosso, which
would establish the District of Columbia Office of Public-Private Partnerships
to facilitate the procurement and administration of public-private partnerships
in the District of Columbia. It would also establish personnel authority and
budget mechanisms for the office, adopt rules and regulations with regard to
public-private partnerships, and create a District of Columbia Infrastructure
Fund.
The bill would also
establish requirements for the procurement process for public-private
partnerships, which includes solicitation and response processes, provides for
Council review of solicitations for public-private partnerships, and lays out
additional details for the administration of public-private partnerships.
The long-awaited grand opening of the brand new Petworth Safeway

The District Department of
Transportation (DDOT) and Pepco filed their request for undergrounding in the
first three years of a seven year plan with the Public Service Commission (PSC)
on June 17th. The report includes two areas in Ward 4 where
the primary feeder would be relocated underground in the first year: from
13th and Madison down to Decatur and over to 14th ending
at Buchannan. This area also goes east-west from 13th-16th
Street, NW. The other area is in Crestwood including Mathewson and
Allison Streets, Blagden Avenue, Blagden Terrace, and Colorado Avenue.
The plan proposes undergrounding the feeder parts of Manor Park, Walter Reed,
Brightwood and Petworth in 2016. The PSC will
post the maps on their website, www.dcpsc.org, in the near future and will also be holding informal hearings this summer.
For further information,
please contact Carmen Davis in the Office of the Commission Secretary,

The DC Department of Public
Works (DPW) announced today that its trash and recycling crews will begin their
collections an hour earlier, at 6 am, Tuesday, June 17 through Friday, June 20,
due to predicted 90°+ temperatures. Residents may put their trash and
recyclables out for pick-up starting at 6 pm the day before their
collections.
Throughout the summer, when the temperature is
predicted to be 90˚ or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of
Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days), DPW
collection crews will begin their work at 6 am to avoid health or environmental
issues.
