Weld Aging Well Spring Classes

The Weld Aging Well Program provides innovative workshops and classes that support the health and independence of older adults and their caregivers by giving them tools to better manage their health. 

 

The evidence-based programs empower older adults and their caregivers to take control of their health by maintaining a healthy lifestyle through increased self-efficacy and self-management.

 

March

Walk With Ease

Increase your balance, strength and walking pace while building confidence in your ability to be physically active. This program is proven to reduce the pain and discomfort of walking.

 

Six weekly sessions 11a.m.-noon at Eaton Community Recreation Center from 3/6/23-4/14/23. Call Tyler at (970) 400-6117 to register.

 

A Matter of Balance

Learn ways to reduce the fear of falling and break the fear of falling cycle by addressing physical, social, and cognitive factors affecting fear of falling.

 

Eight weekly sessions 9-11 a.m. at Banner Health North Colorado Medical Center from 3/7/23-4/25/23. Call Tyler at (970) 400-6117 to register.

 

Tomando Control de su salud

Sea proactivo y aprenda las herramientas para manejar su condición crónica usted mismo, por ejemplo, enfermedad cardíaca, diabetes, artritis, EPOC, dolor, etc. Aprenda a aplicar el conocimiento, como una nutrición adecuada, desarrollando un programa de ejercicios.

April

A Matter of Balance

Healthier Living Colorado

Take charge of your chronic condition at a Healthier Living workshop! Learn skills to manage living with a chronic condition(s) like heart disease, depression, stroke, and other concerns.

 

Six weekly sessions 1-3:30 p.m. at Riverside Library from 4/14/23-5/19/23. Call Tyler at (970) 400-6117 to register.

 

Strong People

Maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and balance. Hand weights and legs weights are provided. Learn proper technique and intensity specific for you.

 

Twelve weekly sessions: 9-10 a.m.,11 a.m.- noon and 5-6 p.m. beginning 4/17/23. Call Tyler at (970) 400-6117 to register.

 

May

Tai Ji Quan: Introduction to Moving for Better Balance

Improve static and dynamic postural ability, increase range of motion around ankle joints and build lower body strength. Learn eight form core routine with built in exercise variations and subroutine of Mini Therapeutic movements. Learn to practice while standing or sitting.

 

Twelve weekly sessions 9:30-10:15am, 10:30-11:15am at Evans Recreation Center;

10-11 a.m. at Milliken Senior Center; 1-2 p.m. at Eaton Community Recreation Center. Call Tyler at (970) 400-6117 to register.

Friendly Fork

Friendly Fork

 

Friendly Fork meal sites are now holding healthy lifestyle discussions at specific meal site locations. Fresh Conversations is a nutrition education program that supports healthy aging and independence. Meetings are led by a registered dietitian following the Fresh Conversations newsletters.

  • April 4, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in LaSalle

Home Safety Voucher Program

Grab bar

The Home Safety Program provides reimbursement funds up to $400 to older adults for grab bar installation.

 

The program is designed to help maintain independence by increasing the safety of individuals living at home.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be 60 years old or older.
  • Must be a Weld County resident.
  • Must complete an application for the program with details about their needs.

 

How it Works

After approval into the program, participants must hire a licensed contractor to complete the installation of the grab bar(s). Participants pay the provider for services rendered and receive reimbursement up to their voucher amount.

 

Exceptions

Participants who rent their home must complete a property owner consent form (not all  rental circumstances are eligible). Please consult the Program Coordinator for verification. The Home Safety Program Coordinator must approve services before the work can begin.

Greeley Game Night at Boomer House

On the first Friday of the month, Greeley Game Night at Boomer House owner and hostess Dr. Amy Mattox invites you to join her for "Boomer's Hook and Ladder Club (50+)" from 11-2pm at 1024 8th Street in downtown Greeley. They have handicap parking and a wheelchair ramp accessible through the back-alley parking spaces. They serve coffee/tea, local craft beer on tap, red/white wine and a variety of sodas and snacks. You're welcome to bring your own lunch or order delivery. 

 

Meet new friends over card games and nostalgic games from our collection or yours. Dr. Amy is a great host, it's screens-free and you'll be lifted by the very sweet and fun community time. More details at greeleygamenight.com and RSVP not required! 

 

Their venue is the 129-year-old Boomer House, named after its original owner, William M. Boomer, one of Greeley's early mayors. Mr. Boomer also founded and led Greeley's first fire brigade, known as "W.M. Boomer Hook and Ladder Co.", or "Boomer's Hooks."

Cycling Without Age

Poudre River

The Poudre River Trail offers FREE trishaw rides (weather permitting) for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, or those in supported living situations. Their guest are also welcome! 

 

30-60 minute rides are offered on weekdays.

Food Tax Rebate Program

Food rebate

The City of Greeley’s 2022 Food Tax rebate program application process for low-income Greeley residents runs from Feb. 1 - May 31, 2023.

 

The maximum rebate is $100 per person. Applications and bilingual assistance are available in-person at Greeley City Hall, located at 1000 10th Street, or by calling  (970) 350-9748.

100th Birthday

 

If you or someone you know is celebrating their 100th birthday, the Centennial Club of Weld County wants to know! The Centennial Club honors residents turning 100 years old or older with a proclamation by the Weld County Board of Commissioners at a live-streamed board meeting and recognition on our social media channels.
