Meet the man behind the monthly WCR 49 Newsletters, Lukas Schroeder. Lukas is
a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Transportation Planner for Atkins
Global and serves a member of the WCR 49 Public Information Team. As a
Transportation Planner, Lukas analyzes and creates documents to pass
transportation projects through the NEPA process.
Weld County selected Atkins as the owner’s representative to assist staff
with implementing the WCR 49 Parkway and Corridor Projects. Atkins is an
international design, engineering and planning services consulting firm for
land, sea, air and utility infrastructure projects.
Since graduating from Kansas State University with a degree in Operations
Management, Lukas has worked in retail, manufacturing, quality assistance and
quality control, and environmental planning. In 2010, Lukas had the opportunity
to move to Hawaii and work for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART)
as a Document/Records Manager. In this role, he was able to learn about
environmental permits and began working with the Permits Manager. In just a
short time, Lukas became proficient enough to start working full-time on
Environmental Permits and later became a Planner for the agency. After three
years with HART, Lukas pursued an opportunity in Denver, which lead him to his
current position with Atkins.
“My favorite part about road construction is knowing it is more than just
laying concrete or asphalt. It takes time and effort from many individuals to
complete the project,” said Lukas. “Being able to see your projects come to life
is very special.”
Lukas is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending his weekends camping and
fly-fishing in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Between work and play,
Lukas makes time to watch his hometown team, the Kansas City Royals.
