THIS MONTH'S SPOTLIGHTS
FEBRUARY IS LIBRARY LOVERS' MONTH
A month-long celebration of school, public, and private libraries of all types. This is a time for everyone, especially library support groups, to recognize the value of libraries and to work to assure that the nation's libraries will continue to serve.
Nationally, the last few years have seen an alarming increase in cyber crime. Malware and ransomware attacks, data breaches, and identity theft have become daily features in the news. Libraries have a long history of protecting the privacy of library users. For this reason, we are taking steps to protect patrons' personal and reading history data.
Starting on March 28th, 2023 access to your personal information and reading history in our library catalog will be protected by passwords.
Each library patron will have a default password to get started, and will be prompted to reset the default password to a password of your choosing. As we get closer to March 28th, we will send additional information about what your default password will be along with instructions on how to reset your password.
Thank you in advance for working with library staff to better protect your privacy.
DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT A COPY!

Join us! this month when we will discuss the book “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah
In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn’t believe that the Nazis will invade France…but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive. Vianne’s sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old, searching for purpose with all the reckless passion of youth. While thousands of Parisians march into the unknown terrors of war, she meets Gaëtan, a partisan who believes the French can fight the Nazis from within France, and she falls in love as only the young can…completely. But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life time and again to save others.

EXTRAS
BLANCHE HIGH MAURO
ORAL HISTORY: VAIL VALLEY VOICES
Blanche Maxine High Mauro was born on 24 November 1924 to Robert and Bess Mae High near Edwards, Colorado. After migrating from Mississippi with extended family, Blanche's parents homesteaded a 250-acre ranch along Squaw Creek.
Blanche and her 10 siblings attended the one-room Squaw Creek School that was taught by Miss Diamond from Leadville. After taming an old wild horse the family called Old Gyp, Blanche and her sisters rode the pony everyday to grade school. When the High children attended high school in Gypsum, the boys stayed in a cabin during the school week, while the girls boarded with acquaintances. While attending school and living in Gypsum away from their parents, Blanche cooked for her siblings on the cabin's wood stove. All the High children graduated from Eagle County High School.
Blanche recollects her family dining on venison, elk and produce they grew on their farm. They also collected fresh berries and wild greens along Squaw Creek. As a young woman, Blanche enjoyed barn dances at Avon's Hahnewald Barn and fondly recalls watching Ellis "Bearcat" Bearden "box a bear" outside the only store in Edwards.
Blanch High Mauro's oral history interview was performed by her son, Tony Mauro, the "Voice of Vail."
