Temporary closure scheduled for Coalton Trail
Boulder County is taking steps to improve the sustainability of the Coalton Trail by constructing drainage features to reduce erosion. The entire 2.9-mile trail will also receive a recycled asphalt surface once the drainage improvements are complete. The funding for this project comes from a partnership between the Trust for Public Lands and the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks.
The trail will be closed starting in October and will reopen in early 2024. Visitors should also take note that the Coalton Trailhead and Meadowlark Trail may be closed occasionally to allow for cattle grazing and to avoid conflicts with visitors. Regular updates will be available onsite at the Coalton Trailhead (3495 McCaslin Blvd.) and online at the Coalton Trailhead webpage.

Historical Commission to begin museum rebuild
The Superior Historical Commission has collaborated with Town staff and Architectural Workshop to finalize the design of a replica building to replace the Historical Mine Camp House Museum, which was destroyed in the Marshall Fire.
The materials used in the construction were carefully chosen to meet current building codes, ADA and fire safety standards, while still maintaining a historic appearance. The design and construction documents have been completed and the Board approved Schneider Building Company for the construction phase of the Historical Museum Mine Camp replica. Construction will begin in late fall and is expected to run through early spring of 2024.

Reconstructed parks will feature new playground equipment and unique themes
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PARC) hosted three public meetings for residents to provide feedback and input on the rebuilding designs for Children’s Park, Big Sagamore Park and Little Sagamore Park. Lose Design was awarded the design contract for these projects. They attended all of the public meetings and collected input from residents. Final designs were approved by the Town Board in August. The highlight of each park will be new playground equipment, each with its own theme to serve the local neighborhoods. Construction is anticipated to start in late 2023, with completion in the summer of 2024.

New civic space coming to Downtown Superior
Concept designs are underway for a new two-story, 8,000-square-foot Civic Space located in Block 6 in Downtown Superior. Collab Architecture is working closely with Town staff and Town Advisory Committees to analyze the results of a public survey and input from Committees and the public.
Some suggestions for using this public space are library services, performance space, exhibit space, meeting/activity/maker space, event space and co-working space. Each floor includes several large glass overhead doors facing east looking onto the public plaza, high ceilings, restrooms, and storage. Lobby areas, staff offices, and various public areas will also be included in the design. The concept designs are expected to be reviewed by the Town Board on September 18, with construction starting in late 2023 and completion scheduled for the spring or summer of 2024.

Last chance to provide feedback on the Coyote Ridge Open Space Master Plan
The Coyote Ridge Open Space Master Plan is in progress! This plan will help guide the management of the 182 acres acquired by the Town in 2020, along with the existing open space on this south edge of Superior. SuperBloom Innovative Landscape Architecture and Design is leading the development of this plan, working closely with the Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC). Public engagement on the Master Plan has included an initial community survey, gathering resident input at Town Events, and meeting with staff and the Open Space Advisory Committee. A second public survey will go out in September to gather additional details and preferences for trails, signs, and best management practices. Look for more details in Town communications or visit the project webpage.
