Dear Superior residents,
I spent some time with the US Census data from 2020 to get a better idea of “who we are” here in Superior; the results were eye-opening.
The town has a population of 13,271, which has increased 6.5% since the last census in 2010. We’re 50% male and 50% female. Twenty-nine percent of our population is younger than 18 years old. Nine percent of us are over the age of 65.
There are 4,668 households in Superior. Forty percent are renters. The median value of an owner-occupied home in 2020 was $660,000, and the median rent was just about $2,200.
The median age in Superior is 37 years old. For those of us over the age of 25, 77% possess a bachelor's degree or higher. The median household income in the town is $132,000, which is significantly higher than the national median household income.
Nearly 50% of our households have children living in them under the age of 18 years old. We’re 76% white, 16% Asian, and 8% Hispanic.

Respectfully, Mayor Mark Lacis

Striking New Art on Display in the Community Center
The next time you’re at the Superior Community Center, say hello to the 11-foot-tall orchid near the front door entrance! Join CAPS in welcoming Regenerato by artist Roger Reutimann to the Town’s public art collection. The enormous wooden sculpture was Reutimann’s artistic response to the Marshall Fire and was generously gifted to the residents of Superior. For Reutimann, the charred vase with the giant yellow-stained wooden orchid signifies re-growth and beauty from the ashes. Further, yellow orchids are traditionally symbolic of new beginnings and friendship.

Sewer, Landscaping, Trash & Recycling Fees Increase
Due to inflation and federally mandated improvements at Superior’s wastewater treatment plant, the monthly fees in the areas of sewer, landscaping, trash and recycling are due to increase in the next few months.
Residents will begin seeing the rate increases in their billing statements beginning for landscaping, trash and recycling in February, and for sewer in April. Rate increases are as follows: Sewer (5%), Landscaping (3%), Trash and Recycling ($14.49 per month).
Not all rate increases apply to all residents. To find more information, please visit the Town’s Utility Billing webpage. View your account at xpressbillpay.com. Contact Utility Billing through email at utilitybilling@superiorcolorado.gov or phone at 720-304-6797.
|
Utility Billing to Commence Normal Operations
Shortly after the Marshall Fire, all utility late fees and shut-offs were suspended for all residents to accommodate the hardship faced by the community. As the Town moves into the new year, late fees and shut-offs will resume. This resumption will not apply to homes that were destroyed or homes that are uninhabitable because of severe damage. For all others, this change began in January and will first be applied to the February 11 statement reflecting January usage. The Town will continue to assist individuals who are struggling to pay their past-due utility bills as a result of the economic impact from COVID-19 or the Marshall Fire. We will work with you to set up a payment plan that meets your individual needs.
Please contact the Utility Office at 720-304-6797 or through email at utilitybilling@superiorcolorado.gov to discuss your options; Remember, a partial payment is better than no payment.
