The new athletic field in Downtown Superior will remain closed until the sod has had time to establish proper root depth. Many areas are experiencing elevated mosquito populations due to unseasonal August monsoon rains. Residents are encouraged to check yards for anything that can hold water such as buckets, tarps, toys, and overwatered and soggy lawns.
Remember the Four D's to minimize mosquito annoyance:
1. Limiting outdoor activities between DUSK and DAWN 2. DRESS in long-sleeved shirts and long pants while outdoors 3. DEFEND - wear EPA approved repellents including DEET, Picaridin and Oil of Lemon, and Eucalyptus Find the repellent that is right for you 4. DRAIN standing water from around structures
Additional information about mosquitoes and steps residents can take to protect themselves is available on the state health department's Fight the Bite Campaign.
