Over the next couple of months we are going to highlight Colorado SIPA as the portal in a limited series.

Ch. 1: What is a Portal?

Portal por·tal (noun) a door, entrance; a website serving as a guide or port of entry into the World Wide Web usually including a collection of links to other sites (Merriam-Webster)

Colorado SIPA was created in 2004 with the mandate to “develop the officially recognized statewide portal,” in short, oversee colorado.gov. The name, Statewide Internet Portal Authority, derives from this statute and since 2004, Colorado SIPA, as a government authority, has delivered and exceeded expectations set by Colorado statute (C.R.S. § 24-37.7-101 et seq.)

Colorado SIPA is a self-funded government authority that works with governments from every corner of beautiful Colorado including state agencies, municipalities, counties, special districts, public education institutions, and public universities.

As the portal, Colorado SIPA's free colorado.gov services provide governments valuable and essential opportunities through technology to interact and connect with residents.

Although SIPA works with every state agency and nearly every Colorado county, the majority of partners are municipalities with large potential growth with special districts and charter schools. Colorado SIPA has the honor of providing essential eGovernment solutions to a vast array of governments - have you caught on to the great services that Colorado SIPA provides yet?

Food for thought: What does “portal” mean to you? How should a statewide internet portal serve governments (and residents) across the state of Colorado? This conversation will continue in our next newsletter as part of our “Portal Series” but until then - what are your thoughts? Let us know at sipa@cosipa.gov.

The Colorado Department of Local Affairs held its first 2020 Census Outreach Program stakeholder meeting on Monday, July 8th. The team discussed and released the official policies and procedures for the program as well as a sample document that included application questions and information about best practices and types of programs that would help with the increase of Census 2020 outreach and education in Colorado. Some of those activities include, but are not limited to: storytelling that resonates well with hard to count populations; drop-in articles for newsletters; Back-to-school night information for parents; conference sessions and exhibits at non-profit and chamber events; Census link on the student portal at colleges and universities; billboard messaging; material that is developed in multiple languages; text messaging campaigns; PSAs and outreach to school administrators and early childhood partners.

If you have additional questions about how you can partner for Census 2020 outreach or apply for the grant program, please contact Natriece Bryant at natriece.bryant@state.co.us or office 303-864-7707
