CDOT Construction in Silverthorne

CDOT I-70 Eastbound Frisco to Silverthorne Auxiliary Lane Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun work on the eastbound Frisco to Silverthorne auxiliary lane project. Work is expected to go through September 2023.

Nighttime work is expected this week from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday with a possibility of Friday depending on weather and resource availability. Motorists can expect alternating one-lane closures in both directions, and shorter left turn lanes when accessing on-ramps for I-70. The shorter turn lanes will affect drivers getting onto both eastbound and westbound I-70 at exit 205.

As the project progresses in the coming months, plan for up to 20 minutes of additional travel time in the work zone.

Project Improvements

  • Widening the road in the construction zone
  • Repaving eastbound lanes in the construction zone and restriping
  • Widening of bridges over US 6 and the Blue River; upgrades to drainage
  • Deer fencing in both directions of I-70
  • Improved truck parking at the EB scenic overlook
  • Longer deceleration lane and improved signage at the exit 205 off-ramp

Exit 205 Interchange Traffic Impacts

The exit 205 interchange will see the majority of work in 2022. Motorists can expect:

  • Alternating one-lane closures in both directions at night and shorter left lane turn-pockets. The shorter turn lanes are expected to be in place 24/7 until July.
  • Daytime work hours from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (minimal impacts after noon on Fridays).
  • Nighttime work hours will vary, starting as early as 8:00 p.m. and going no later than 6:00 a.m.
  • Sidewalks will remain open and detour around active work areas.
  • Lanes on US 6 will be reduced to 10 feet.

Additional Traffic Impacts

  • Two eastbound I-70 lanes will remain open through the entirety of the project.
  • Concrete barriers will shift traffic into temporary lanes; traffic patterns will change based on work.
  • Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph on I-70.
  • Width restrictions on I-70 will be reduced to 11 feet.
  • At times, nighttime work may be necessary on Saturdays.
  • The overlook east of the exit 203 (Frisco) on-ramp will be closed during construction.
