Irrigation Water in Short Supply
The Cactus Valley Ditch was drained this week to repair a hole. It was up and running the next day. We’re playing catch up now trying to fill our tanks.
Additionally, we received a message midweek from the operators of the Ware and Hinds that read, in part, "As of this morning, we are down to 14 c.f.s. Glen Lund, the water commissioner, said he doesn't have any more water he can call for us. Since the ditch volume is less than 23 c.f.s., all shareholders are limited to 90% of their adjudicated shares. Please shut your headgate off if you don't need the water." It concluded with a hopeful thought that perhaps these "dry conditions will not persist for much longer."
Silt Public Works Director Trey Fonner believes that we are unlikely to get any more water from the Ware and Hinds Ditch this summer. It provides about 1/3 of our irrigation water. Conservation will be the key for the rest of the 2020 irrigation season.
Tell your friends and neighbors to be judicious in their use of their water, water only on their assigned days, not water more than they allowed to do and to NOT irrigate on Friday!

Construction Started on New Roundabout
Construction has begun on the new roundabout that will mark Silt's eastern entry! Associated with the new development just getting started at Painted Pastures, the roundabout will serve all of Silt to make access to US Highway 6 from the east side of town easier and safer, as well as to create an attractive entry to our Town.
Construction of the roundabout will require some unavoidable short-term inconvenience , as access to Highway 6 from Overo Blvd will be closed from approximately August 15th to December 15. Access to Painted Pastures will be by Grand Avenue until the roundabout opens. Contractors have been encouraged to minimize the impact of noise and dust as much as is possible.

Following the retirement of Utilities Director Jack Castle, the plants were put under the capable management of Public Works Director Trey Fonner. The position of Utilities Director will not be replaced at this time. We have brought back the old Town of Silt position of Water/Wastewater Foreman and promoted Zubin Falberg to that position.
In his last couple of months, Jack was extremely busy with some routine and not so routine activities. He led the team in replacing the switches and some bearings on the belt press in the wastewater plant, pulled and replaced both of the raw water pumps, the wiring from the water plant to the raw water pumps, some automated valves, air controllers, electrical components, vacuum pump, blower, air compressor pump and motor and the air lines that control the mechanical devices.
The Town of Silt thanks Jack for his 13 years of service to the Town and wishes him all the best in his retirement!
