The Colorado Broadband Office invites you to join our special webinar series focusing on student connectivity. The goal of these webinars is to shine a light on the complex issue of ensuring broadband access for all students to enable participation in remote learning. We will talk with school districts, broadband providers, and policymakers about the challenges of connecting students, understanding the needs, innovative solutions, existing programs, and how to fund student connectivity.

Session One: District Stories

In the first webinar, we will take a deep dive into the challenges that districts face in trying to identify their need and identify short term fixes while also considering long term solutions. We will hear about the innovative “quick fixes” that districts implemented in the spring, and how remote learning requirements have shifted as the new school year began highlighting the need for long-term broadband solutions. We will also talk about funding programs that Colorado school districts can utilize to help solve these issues.

Session Two: The Future of E-rate

In the second webinar, we will be joined by outspoken experts to discuss how E-rate funding relates to student connectivity at home. Currently, E-rate funding can only be utilized for connections to school campuses, preventing schools from offering connectivity solutions to students while they are engaged in remote learning. In this session our panelist will explore concepts to modernize the E-Rate program to accommodate student connectivity to the home through school provided connections or bulk purchasing agreements from existing ISPs.

Session Three: Provider Solutions

In the third webinar, we will focus on how districts and providers are working together to connect students at home. We will hear from ISPs about how they stepped up to address the challenges that arose at the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, what they learned, and how they are applying those lessons learned to implement more effective solutions in the fall.
