The holiday season is here and with many residents cooking and entertaining more than usual, we'd like to remind everyone to be good stewards of our sewer. Please do your part to prevent costly and time-consuming sewer equipment blockages or breakdowns and remember your toilets and drains are not trash cans - it matters what you put down them.

For example, cooking grease (oil, butter, salad dressings, etc.) and residue should be scraped from plates and pans and placed in a trash can, not rinsed down the drain or garbage disposal. If grease or oil is still hot, pour it into a can or jar to cool before placing in the trash.

Likewise, with more guests in the house, please be mindful of what is being flushed down your toilets. And while flushable wipes do actually "flush," they do not break down in the sewer system like toilet paper and can cause serious blockages and back ups, especially when combined with cooking grease and oils.

For a complete list of Do's & Don'ts for your drains and toilets please visit our Water & Sewer page and review the "Sewer Stewardship" information. Thank you.
