Comprehensive Municipal Energy Project Approved 🏢✅
After two years of in-depth analysis on all the city-owned buildings, the city approved a $6.6 million dollar investment in upgrading facilities, of which $550,000 is paid for via federal and state grants and approximately $600,000 will be recuperated in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and utility reimbursements and incentives. This comprehensive project includes addressing equipment that was beyond useful life with more efficient models, improving municipal building water efficiency, and adding photovoltaic systems (solar) to Broken Tee Golf Course and the Englewood Recreation Center. This investment will be paid off in 12 years via the project's own energy savings and will save the city nearly $2 million dollars between year 13-19 after implementation. Implementation will begin August, 2025 and tentatively wrap up in June, 2026.
Three Englewood Businesses Recognized for Environmental Leadership
Three Englewood businesses have achieved Bronze Level recognition in the Colorado Green Business Network (CGBN), celebrating their commitment to sustainability and community leadership.
These Englewood businesses are leading by example, showing that investing in sustainability not only benefits operations but also builds stronger connections with the community. If you know of a business in Englewood that deserves to be celebrated for their efforts, consider connecting them with the Sustainable Business Partnership of the Tri-Cities. This free, city-led program provides 1:1 support to help businesses take practical steps toward their goals, strengthen their operations, and even achieve statewide recognition through the Colorado Green Business Network. By joining, businesses gain access to resources, guidance, and a network of peers all working to build a more sustainable future. Sustainable Business Partnership Biz Highlight: Suzanne Bosman with Cafe 180
What inspired you to join the Sustainable Business Partnership program?
We connected with Aidan [Green Business Program Coordinator] at an Englewood Chamber of Commerce networking event and learned about the Sustainable Business Partnership program and the number of great opportunities it provides. As a nonprofit that is passionate about sustainability, joining the [program] seemed like a great next step.
What sustainability improvements or practices are you most proud of so far?
We grow some of our own herbs and produce in our garden, just three blocks south of the cafe. Our Garden Coordinator works with and mentors volunteers each week to plant, harvest, and tend to this beautiful community space.
How has being part of SBP supported your business and community impact?
SBP is a wonderful way to be part of our community and connect with neighbors. The more people who know about and support the cafe, the more folks we are able to serve. Since all our proceeds go toward feeding those who are experiencing food insecurity in the Denver Metro Area, sustainable business practice and an increase in our customer base allow us to provide more free meals to those who need it most.
Can you share a little about your business story and what makes you unique?
Our story starts in 2010, when our founders saw the issue of food insecurity in our Englewood neighborhood. They opened CAFE 180 with the mission of feeding everyone. We do this through meals that are being paid for at the restaurant as well as strategic partnerships in the Englewood and Denver Metro area helping to assure that those who are food insecure are receiving nourishing meals. We deliver hundreds of free meals each week, and since we started 15 years ago, we’ve served more than 200,000 meals to people who are in need of food. We offer dine-in, take-out, catering, and volunteer opportunities.
South Metro Waste Diversion Plan Passed ♻️
On September 2, Englewood City Council approved the South Metro Waste Diversion Plan (with an amendment). The South Metro encompasses Englewood, Centennial, Littleton, and Sheridan. The one amendment was made to remove the goal of exploring single-hauler for the community. This plan began in February 2024 with a comprehensive look at the region's waste challenges and opportunities and culminated in a final proposed plan by a third-party consultant. To learn more about the project go to www.southmetrowastediversion.com. To read the plan, go here.
