Strong Engagement, Steady Momentum
Over the past six months, the COMPAS Payroll Modernization newsletter has maintained strong and consistent engagement among subscribers. Distribution increased from approximately 445 recipients in August to 466 in December, with delivery rates remaining above 83% each month. Open rates ranged from 59% to 68%, exceeding typical benchmarks for internal communications and indicating continued interest in COMPAS updates. Subscriber retention remained stable throughout the period, with no unsubscribes recorded.
Subscriber interaction with newsletter content also remained steady. Click-through rates averaged between 6% and 12%, with September showing notably higher engagement driven by interest in frequently asked questions and reference materials. The most visited links consistently directed readers to the COMPAS home page, learning center resources, project documentation and agency engagement tools. These trends indicate that readers are not only opening the newsletter but also using it as a pathway to access information and resources that support understanding and readiness as the COMPAS project continues.

WordWise
The COMPAS implementation introduces a new set of terminology that may be unfamiliar at first. That’s why we launched WordWise, a monthly segment designed to help you become fluent in COMPAS—one word at a time.
This month’s featured word: Appointment
An Appointment in COMPAS is equivalent to the job assignment in CPPS. Current appointments will be placed in the first position in COMPAS. Additionally, historical assignment information will be viewable in COMPAS from go-live and beyond.
Want to get ahead? Visit the COMPAS Crosswalk on our project website to explore a glossary of terms, including mappings from CPPS to COMPAS and other vocabulary you’ll encounter as you explore COMPAS.

COMPAS will change how the State assigns payroll costs. Today, we use accounting templates and accounting profiles in the Colorado Labor Allocation (CLAS) system to split payroll expenses across funding sources. In COMPAS, Labor Distribution Profiles (LDPRs) will be used instead. Here’s how it will work: each position will be assigned a default LDPR when it’s created. If something changes—like an employee spends part of their allocated hours on a special project—they can pick a different LDPR on their timesheet. LDPRs also support funding splits and can be effective-dated, so new codes will not have to be created when funding elements change due to new appropriations or expired programs.
Two LDPR workshops will be hosted on January 22 and January 28. Workshop access is available by clicking on the corresponding date.
LDPRs are just one of the ways that COMPAS will make your work easier. Stay tuned.... more information is coming soon.
