Wrapping Up Summer Agency Visits: COMPAS Payroll Modernization in Action
|
Your project team has completed the latest round of state entity tours where we hit the road and visited with impacted stakeholders. In these sessions we provided a project journey status update, information about data validation and labor allocation, discussed training efforts, and shared updated resources and tools.
These opportunities to meet with our state entities are invaluable and we appreciate the time we were able to share together! Over the course of these sessions, we identified several trends that we are excited to address:
- Everyone we met with was aware of the project and the goal to replace CPPS! This is super exciting for the project team because this means we are keeping people informed and aware.
- Folks are excited to engage with the system and test things out on their own. Right now, some people have access through their participation in the Trail Guide and Trailblazer SME programs. As the project team gears up to launch our training sessions, we will also provide access to a sandbox environment for people to test things themselves based on their designated user roles. We encourage everyone to check out our COMPAS introductory videos to see what the interface will look like!
- We heard some concerns connected to the labor allocation functionality because this process will be so different from the current state. For example, accounting templates will not be used anymore. Instead, there will be Labor Distribution Profiles and the project team is going to host a variety of working sessions to ensure our impacted people know how to build them, when to use and update them, and feel confident in using this format.
- Stakeholders are curious about accessing reports and want to know more about how things will be different in COMPAS. We have a new reports page on our website that highlights how reports were developed for COMPAS including the legacy report name and its data source to the future COMPAS report number.
It was great to see everyone and have focused time to address unique stakeholder questions and concerns. As always, we are here to support YOU in this transition. Please reach out to us at SoC_COMPAS@state.co.us with any questions.

COMPAS Stakeholder Spotlight
We are excited to introduce a new section in our monthly newsletters – the COMPAS Stakeholder Spotlight. Each month, we will introduce you to a new project stakeholder who will share why they look forward to using COMPAS… and why you should too!
This month’s featured stakeholder is a Controller who has worked for the State for many years. She looks forward to COMPAS because it is a more integrated, user friendly, and flexible system that will help reduce the amount of manual work in her department. However, COMPAS reporting capabilities are what really entice her. She shares that “having the potential for more reporting and the ability to create new reports that we didn’t even know we need is exciting!” She also shared that “the modern look and feel of COMPAS alone is well worth the hype!”

COMPAS contains validation checks to support the accuracy of your work. Transactions can be validated manually by users as they make entries. COMPAS will perform an automatic data validation when a transaction is submitted.
The validation process checks for required fields, business rules, and that the entered data matches system configurations. If issues are detected, a feedback ribbon (pictured below) appears under the transaction title; this ribbon displays messages for the user. The messages displayed will vary depending on the specific error(s) detected during validation.
You may see the following message types in the feedback ribbon:
When COMPAS detects errors that require correction, users can expand a message panel to learn more about the error and to be guided to the specific field that requires correction. Watch this short video to learn more about the error messaging process in COMPAS.
We'd Love to Hear From You
Have ideas for future newsletter topics or office hours? Is there something you'd like to hear more about? We are all ears. Your feedback helps shape content that matters to you. SoC_COMPAS@state.co.us
