Sneak Peek Searching for Data in COMPAS
COMPAS provides several features to help you quickly locate the information you need. For example, the global search bar can be used in multiple ways. Experienced users can use page codes to navigate directly to the page or transaction they seek. Newer users may prefer to use real-word searches to locate a transaction or page code as shown in Image 1 below.

Under either option, wildcards can be used to increase the flexibility of your search. A wildcard is an asterisk (*) that is used to represent one or many characters when specifying search criteria in COMPAS. For example, if you know an employee name contains Brown but are not sure of the rest of the name, you can search for *Brown* (asterisks before and after) to find the employee you need.
COMPAS Search Cards, found throughout the system, contain filters that help you locate information. To keep your search broad, leave most filters blank. The more filters you complete, the more specific your results will be. The image below depicts a typical search card.

There are several types of filters you will encounter:
Dropdown lists offer a defined list of values to choose from.
Date selectors can be used to select a date.
Picklists take you to a secondary search screen where you can search and select an appropriate value.
Image 3: Favorite Picklist Values If there are picklist values you use frequently, you can “favorite” them by clicking the Heart icon. The next time you place your cursor in that picklist, COMPAS will propose your favorites first rather than presenting the entire picklist.
Image 4: Pinned Searches Even better, once you have created a search that works for you, you can pin it for future use.
These COMPAS usability features are a great way to save yourself a little time!
