We're excited to bring you a behind-the-scenes look at our progress on the Payroll Modernization Project. As we work toward a more efficient, user-friendly payroll experience, we want to keep you informed and involved. Our goal is to simplify and enhance payroll processes, making them easier and more accessible for everyone. In this month's edition, we'll be highlighting the COMPAS Crosswalk, giving you insight into its purpose and how it supports a smoother transition to the new system.
In each newsletter, we'll share updates, insights, and a preview of the new features we're developing. Stay tuned as we take this journey toward a smoother payroll experience together!
COMPAS Crosswalk
COMPAS introduces a modern and streamlined user interface (UI). While the application looks vastly different from CPPS, it operates and looks like other web-based applications you likely use during your daily routine – your bank or health insurance provider’s websites, for example. Since the UI is familiar, new users will find it easy to begin using the new application.
Two features in COMPAS drive the user experience; these are business roles and home pages. As a COMPAS user, you will be assigned at least one business role, possibly more, depending on the nature of your work. Each business role has its own home page that provides quick access to the tools and information you need to do your job. Quicklinks are the colorful tiles at the top of a home page that provide one-click access to the most used transactions and pages for that business role. Widgets are another informative element of the user’s home page that changes by business role. Widgets display useful, dynamic content that is specific to the logged in user. Common examples of widgets include your recent browsing history and the last ten transactions you accessed.
The image below offers a sneak peek at the COMPAS UI. As you switch business roles, your home page, Quicklinks and Widgets will adjust accordingly-customizing COMPAS to support you in your work.

Trailblazer Kickoff
We’re thrilled to announce that the Trailblazer Kickoff took place on Thursday, November 7th! Our Trailblazers are a dedicated group of representatives from across the State who have volunteered to perform usability testing in COMPAS, providing valuable early feedback to the project implementation team. Their insights and testing efforts will play a crucial role in refining and enhancing the COMPAS experience for all users.
Stay tuned for future updates as we share their progress and the improvements they help bring to life. If you’re interested in joining the Trailblazers and contributing to testing, please reach out to us at SOC_COMPAS@state.co.us. Your involvement could make a meaningful impact!
