Town of Dillon and Colorado Mountain College Enter Intergovernmental Agreement to Explore Expanded Community and Academic Presence
On February 17, 2026, the Town of Dillon approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Colorado Mountain College to explore redevelopment of the college’s presence in the town.
Colorado Mountain College (CMC) established its Dillon academic location in 1972, originally offering classes in two existing buildings in the town core. Over more than five decades, both the college and the community have grown and evolved.
As part of long-range planning efforts, representatives from CMC and the Town of Dillon have held a limited number of informal, high-level discussions exploring future possibilities that could benefit students and the broader community. Both entities support the sustainable development of Dillon’s core area and are investigating opportunities to best serve residents, students, and visitors now and in the decades ahead.
Community use of CMC facilities continues to increase, highlighting the value of flexible public spaces. Over the past year, CMC Breckenridge hosted more than 225 external events, meetings, and gatherings, utilizing spaces ranging from single classrooms to a 150-seat auditorium. A similar flexible community meeting space in the Dillon–Frisco–Silverthorne corridor could serve the area, much like CMC’s Morgridge Commons centers in Glenwood Springs and Basalt.
CMC has a long-standing role in Summit County’s workforce development and educational pathways, serving students at both the high school level and beyond. The college maintains a 30- to 40-year planning horizon for its presence in the region.
The passage of the 7C property tax ballot measure in November reflects broad community support for local higher education.
On February 17, 2026, the Town of Dillon approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with CMC to explore redevelopment of the college’s presence in the town. The CMC Board of Trustees is expected to consider approval of the IGA in March. Under the agreement, the Town and CMC intend to explore development concepts involving several publicly and privately owned parcels, which may include a new CMC campus location, parking options, community meeting space, and affordable housing.
The Town of Dillon views CMC as a key community partner whose vision aligns with the Town’s public policy goals of enhancing quality of life through recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities for residents, businesses, and guests.
To further support this vision, the Dillon Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) is under contract to purchase properties located at 104 and 105 Village Place.
Any future development discussions will be transparent and will include opportunities for community participation and feedback well before decisions are made.
