Summit County Remains in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
Summit County and the White River National Forest moved into Stage 2 fire restrictions on August 8 after being in Stage 1 restrictions for the last month. Recent hot, dry and windy weather has increased fire danger, with little change expected in the forecast.
These restrictions mean no open flames—including campfires, charcoal grills, fireworks, and smoking (unless in a designated area and/or inside vehicles). Other restrictions include outdoor blasting, grinding, welding, or operating other torches with an open flame.
The community is also encouraged to be wildfire ready, starting with these simple steps:
-
Create defensible space around your home by clearing dry brush.
-
Keep emergency “go kits” ready for your family and pets.
-
Stay informed with Summit County emergency alerts.
Together, we can help protect our community, forests, and first responders.

The Town of Dillon seeks to commission an artist to create an original design for the Town’s reusable bag program. Over the last two years, the Town of Dillon has distributed 6,000 bags to the Summit community and beyond. The design should be original, reflective of the artist’s style, and convey an appreciation of what makes Dillon special. Artists should look at Dillon’s amenities and natural/built environments for inspiration. The reusable bags support Dillon’s sustainability efforts and should reflect the natural environment that surrounds the Town. The Town is seeking artists located in Summit County. Artist applications are due on Friday, Sept. 19, at noon. Learn more and submit your artwork for consideration for the reusable bag here.
