 COEHDI Survey of U.S. EHDI Programs: Part 1
EHDI Coordinators/Directors from 36 U.S. states and territories responded to COEHDI’s survey about EHDI program procedures, structures, and funding. For the next 3 months we will display different aspects of the results. In Part 1 we will share what we learned about the prevalence of teleaudiology and about how different EHDI programs follow up on hearing screenings when a child doesn’t pass. (At this time the results below do not include Colorado because the goal was to learn about what other states are doing.) A full report with all of the details and numbers will be disseminated once it is ready.
   Note: in 11% of cases the postal letter sent to families included a QR code for families to use to respond or ask questions about barriers they are facing.

Colorado families! If your child is Deaf or Hard of Hearing and between birth to 36 months, please share your feedback about your journey through the Colorado EHDI system from newborn hearing screening through early intervention. Your feedback can help to improve the system for families going through it in the future!

 Pilot State Audiologist Presentation
Jennifer Schryer, our pilot state audiologist, has been working in this new pilot role since December 2025. She has submitted a written report and will present her results at the July 17 COEHDI Alliance meeting (at 10am). If you aren’t already on the Alliance invites but would like to hear her report, email Beth Langer, COEHDI Coordinator, at coehdi.cddhhdb@state.co.us.
 Ascent Program
This free program connects Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind (DHHDB) adults—known as Ascent Advisors—with DHHDB children and students (up to age 21) and their families. Whether meeting in person or virtually at homes, schools, or community events, Advisors offer valuable support, resources, and the unique perspective of shared lived experiences.

 Tour of the Maternal Child Health Dashboard
Erika Iisa, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiologist at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), will join us at the July 17 COEHDI Alliance meeting (at 10am) for a tour of the new Maternal Child Health dashboard.
This new, interactive data tool serves as a one-stop shop for maternal and child health data, featuring indicators on maternal mortality, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, paid family leave, breastfeeding, healthcare access and quality, newborn hearing screening, the social determinants of health, and more. The dashboard allows users to explore trends over time and examine the data by key demographic factors.
Erika will provide a brief overview of the dashboard background and contents, focusing on the newborn hearing screening data. If you aren’t already on the Alliance invites but would like to join us for this tour, email Beth Langer, COEHDI Coordinator, at coehdi.cddhhdb@state.co.us.
 Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Family Webinar
The Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project invites you to join the last session of their Summer 2026 Family Webinar Series. Dakota DuBose will present a talk entitled “Language in Motion: Play to Read.” This talk is an educational session focused on teaching literacy and communication to young children, particularly those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. It emphasizes building language skills naturally through engaging play-based strategies. Dakota DuBose earned her Bachelor of Science in Deaf and Hard of Hearing PK-12 Education from the University of Montevallo. She has taught both toddlers and elementary students at a residential school for the deaf.
While this session was mainly designed for families, professionals are welcome to join as well. There is no registration fee.

 Summer Festival: Save the Date!
The Colorado groups that support Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and their families are coming together for a Summer Festival! Come play at the splash pads, playgrounds, and jumbo yard! Play corn hole and other games! Join us on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10am to noon at Red-Tailed Hawk Park (23701 E. Hinsdale Way, Aurora, CO). See flyer in English and Spanish to learn more and then RSVP! The organizations sponsoring this event include: Colorado Hands & Voices, A.G. Bell, Listen Foundation, Rocky Mountain School for the Deaf, Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, Marion Downs Center, and COEHDI.
