This week’s Bulletin features a celebration of National DeafBlind Awareness Week, a spotlight on the iCanConnect telecommunications equipment program, an opportunity to participate in a CU Boulder flood alert research study, and a call to action for the new Colorado Disabilities Survey.
 DeafBlind Awareness Week: National DeafBlind Awareness Week runs from June 25 to July 1! To celebrate, the Division spotlights our DeafBlind Programs, which includes: the Community Intervener Program, Orientation & Mobility (O&M), and Support Service Providers (SSPs) Program. These programs help DeafBlind Coloradans navigate daily life with independence. Two national webinars will also be hosted this week to explore touch-based practices and community knowledge:
- Tactile O&M Strategies for DeafBlind Travelers (June 30, 12:00–1:30 PM): A research-informed look at touch-based strategies for O&M instruction featuring experts and a panel of DeafBlind voices. Register for the Tactile O&M Webinar.
- Protactile Philosophy, Culture, and Community (July 1, 1:00–3:00 PM): Protactile trainers Rhonda Voight-Campbell and Roberto Cabrera co-present in Protactile language about its transformative impact. ASL and voice interpreting will be provided. Register for the Protactile Philosophy Webinar.

Stay Connected with iCanConnect: As we celebrate DeafBlind Awareness Week, we want to remind our community about the iCanConnect (iCC) program, administered right here in Colorado by the Division. This incredible program provides free DeafBlind telecommunications equipment—including smartphones, tablets, computers, and braille devices—to eligible DeafBlind Coloradans. In addition to the equipment, iCC provides one-on-one training to ensure you can stay in touch with family, friends, and your community. If you or someone you know has combined hearing and vision loss, visit our website to learn more about income guidelines and how to apply!
 Participate in the Colorado Disabilities Survey: The Colorado Disability Opportunity Office (CDOO) wants to learn more about the needs of people with disabilities in our state. They will use this information to help make Colorado a better place to live for everyone. Please fill out the survey if you:
- Live in Colorado
- Are 18 or older
- Have a disability, OR
- Take care of someone with a disability (parents can also fill it out for their children).
The survey is completely confidential and will not affect your healthcare, insurance, or state benefits. It takes about 20 minutes to finish. Please share your voice and complete the Colorado Disabilities Survey before it closes on July 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM. If you have questions or need help filling it out, you can email communityengagement@coloradohealthinstitute.org.
 CU Boulder Flood Alert Research Study: Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder are looking for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals to participate in a study about the health impacts of the October 2025 flood alerts in Southwest Colorado. The project is testing whether new AI-generated ASL video alerts are more effective than standard text alerts for making safety and health decisions. To participate, you must be:
- A DHH individual who uses ASL as your primary mode of communication
- Have lived in Southwest Colorado during the October 2025 floods
Participants who complete a short screening and a 45–60 minute Zoom interview will receive a $50 gift card, plus an additional $35 bonus gift card for every qualified individual you refer who completes the study.
