Update: Human remains found in Mud Lake Open Space near Nederland
Facial reconstruction completed, public asked for their assistance
Boulder County, Colo. - On October 2, 2017, a hiker discovered partial human remains at the Mud Lake Open Space property located in unincorporated Boulder County. On April 26, 2018, a human mandible was found in the same general area the skull was discovered and was confirmed to be part of the same skeletal remains.
The DNA profile was entered in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), the FBI’s National DNA Index System (NDIS), into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), and the DNA profile was tested periodically; however the remains have yet to be identified.
The skull was sent to University of North Texas for further testing. Their analysis showed the decedent was most likely male, of mixed ancestry closely associated with derived European ancestry and age is broadly estimated to be 30-60 years. In addition, a facial reconstruction was completed by Community Service Officer Beth Buchholtz, with the Longmont Police Department.
