Boulder County and Longmont offering guided bike tours on Oct. 19 for National Community Planning Month
Tours are free and open to the public, participants are asked to register online by Oct. 18
Boulder County, Colo. - Interested in learning more about planning in Boulder County? Join Boulder County and City of Longmont planning staff on a guided bike tour of Northeast Boulder County to see examples of "planning in action" on Friday afternoon, Oct. 19.
Riders will learn how land use planning, transportation planning, open space preservation, housing, and historic preservation have shaped Longmont and Boulder County's past, present and future.
The route will take riders through urban and rural areas, and will offer an opportunity to discuss historic and environmental preservation, transportation and trail planning, post-flood recovery, growth management and many other collaborative efforts underway that help make this county a great place to live and recreate! Tour highlights include the St. Vrain Greenway, Dickens Park and Sandstone Ranch.
The tours are free and open to the public. Participants are asked to register online by Thursday, Oct. 18.
When: 2-5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 Where: Start/End at St. Vrain Memorial Building, Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave., Longmont (Optional end point: Cheese Importers, 103 Main St., Longmont)
Long Bike Tour: Approximately 17 miles, via a circular route starting from downtown Longmont, then southwest along the LOBO trail, then northwest to Hygiene, then back east to finish in downtown Longmont. Short Bike Tour: Approximately 12 miles, a shorter version of Long Route with a cut-off at St. Vrain Greenway via Golden Ponds, then back east to finish in downtown Longmont.
Participants are asked to wear a helmet, and bring water bottles and snacks. Water jugs for bottle refills and some snacks will be available.
Background
October is designated as National Community Planning Month by the American Planning Association as a way to highlight the role of planners and planning in each community. The month-long celebration is an opportunity to recognize how planning shapes Boulder County and the work of planners and the planning profession in creating communities of lasting value.
