Boulder County, Colo. -- Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Fire Management Program have postponed the Wapiti 2 prescribed burn at Heil Valley Ranch because of adverse weather conditions. The burn was initially scheduled to begin this week, but due to high winds has been postponed.
The prescribed burn is now scheduled to take place between March 13 and 26.
The exact burn dates will be dependent on weather conditions. Heil Valley Ranch will be closed completely during active ignition days. Specific areas will reopen as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so by fire personnel.
The Wapiti 2 prescribed burn project area totals 270 acres. During this timeframe, approximately 70 acres in the northeast section of the project area will be burned. This section is located near the Ponderosa Loop and Wild Turkey Loop Trails. (Map)
Firefighting resources will completely surround the area during the duration of the prescribed burn, and will remain on-site until the fire is confirmed as being controlled by significant weather conditions or determined to be out. The project area is well contained by trails and roads.
