ACWA Spring Conference California Water Plan 2028 Engagement
For those of you who plan to be at the ACWA Spring Conference this week, we’re excited to see you there! Below are a few opportunities to connect with the DWR Water Plan team at ACWA this week:
Wednesday, May 6, 3–5 pm: California Water Plan 2028 Listening Sessions. Join us to learn more about California Water Plan 2028 and share your perspectives and priorities for California’s future water planning. Each one-hour listening session will include a brief presentation by DWR staff followed by small group discussions. Refer to the event flyer for more information.
Thursday, May 7, 9–10:15 am: Water Management & Region Program: From Policy to Production: Delivering 9 Million Acre-Feet by 2040. California made history with SB 72, establishing the State’s first-ever long-term water supply target of 9 million acre-feet by 2040. Now that the law is in effect, the focus shifts from policy to production. This panel will bring together State leaders, implementing agencies, and coalition partners to examine what it will take to sustain momentum and deliver real supply outcomes. Speakers will explore why previous efforts stalled, what structural barriers remain, and how California can move from scarcity-driven debate to coordinated, abundance-focused action. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of implementation priorities, leadership responsibilities, and the critical next steps needed to turn this landmark legislation into measurable results. Speakers include:
- Karla Nemeth, Director, DWR
- Ed Manning, Partner, KP Public Affairs
- Craig Miller, General Manager, Western Municipal Water District
- Jennifer Pierre, General Manager, State Water Contractors
- Jason Phillips, Water Supply Management BCL for Irrigation HDR Engineering, Inc.
