Two Major Infrastructure Projects Coming To City's Parking Garages in April
The City of Walnut Creek is investing in creating a brighter and safer parking experience in all three of their downtown garages. LED lights will replace the existing light fixtures in the Lesher Center, South Locust and Broadway garages. The upgrade to more efficient lighting will also save the City $55,000 in energy costs annually.
At the Lesher Center Garage, a new portal project will create a walkway from the garage to the Lesher Center so patrons can travel between the two structures without having to exit on Locust Street. Both the lighting upgrades and the portal construction will happen simultaneously to maximize project efficiency and minimize impact to the public; the projects will take about two months to complete.
Here’s what to expect during the projects:
- The Lesher Center Garage (1625 Locust St.) will be closed on April 9 and 10. As the Portal Project progresses, entry from the Locust St. side will be reduced to one lane. Access to the northwest Locust St. stairwell and elevator will be blocked for a period of time. Signage will be posted to remind parkers to use the California Blvd elevator and stairwells. Parking will be limited throughout the garage through mid-April.
- South Locust Garage (1350 Locust St.) will be closed on April 23 and 24. Parking will be limited throughout the garage through the end of April.
- Broadway Garage (1390 North Broadway) will be closed on May 7 and 8. Parking will be limited throughout the garage through mid-May.
