COVID-19 Update: Redesigned County Data Dashboards, Quicker Test Results, Air Quality Update & More

Dear San Ramon Community,

Last week, the State of California moved to a new, tiered system for re-opening California counties, which replaced the previous “watch list” system.

The four categories—Widespread (purple), Substantial (red), Moderate (orange), or Minimal (yellow)—are based on a county’s COVID-19 test positivity and adjusted case rate. Contra Costa is currently in the purple tier, which is the most restrictive.

The State reviews data for each county weekly, and each county’s tier is updated on Tuesdays. To move forward, a county must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks.

Contra Costa County has redesigned its Coronavirus Data Dashboards to reflect the State of California's metrics for each tier. More information about the updated dashboards is available at the County's Coronavirus website.

Spare the Air Alert in Effect through Monday, September 14

As wildfire smoke continues to impact the region, Spare the Air alerts are currently in effect through Monday, September 14. Today marks the 25th consecutive Spare the Air alert called by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, its longest on record.

Air Quality in the East Bay is currently at “Unhealthy”, and “Very Unhealthy” levels. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors with windows and doors closed to reduce exposure, and to set air conditioning units and car vent systems to re-circulate to prevent outside air from moving inside.

Elderly persons, children, and individuals with respiratory illnesses are particularly susceptible to elevated air pollution levels and should take extra precautions to avoid exposure.
