COVID-19 Update: New County Health Order Enforcement Ordinance, Updated City COVID-19 Hotline, Senior Services & More

Dear San Ramon Community,

This week, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors passed an urgency ordinance to establish administrative fines for Public Health Order violations.

This ordinance creates an alternative to criminal enforcement of public health violations, which are otherwise subject to prosecution as a misdemeanor under the State of California’s Public Health Order, according to County Supervisor Candace Andersen during the State of the County address on July 30, 2020.

According to a press release from Contra Costa County, County leaders continue to encourage “educational enforcement before issuing penalties. Before issuing a Notice of Fine, an enforcement officer can first issue a Notice of Violation, which gives a person or business up to two days to correct a violation. In cases where the enforcement officer determines that issuing a Notice of Violation is unnecessary or ineffective, the enforcement officer can immediately issue a Notice of Fine.”

Fines for health order violations range from $100-500 for non-commercial activities, and from $250-1,000 for commercial activities. If a violation continues for more than one day, each day is a separate violation.
