COVID-19 Update: Testing for All Contra Costa Residents & New Dashboard Showing Progress Toward Re-Opening

Dear San Ramon Community,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones well. As new activities have resumed this week under the latest County Health Order, Contra Costa County is now making testing available to all County residents, and has launched a new dashboard showing local COVID-19 progress toward re-opening. Please see below for the latest updates.

Countywide Testing for All, Regardless of Symptoms

Contra Costa County Health Services has announced that COVID-19 testing is now available to anyone, even those who are not displaying symptoms. All testing requires an appointment, which can be scheduled by calling 1-844-421-0804 (8 a.m.–3:30 p.m. daily).

Appointments will be scheduled at one of 5 drive-through sites operated by Contra Costa County, or one of 3 additional walk-up sites provided by the State of California. Beginning Friday, May 8, one of the drive-through testing sites will be open in San Ramon at 2600 Camino Ramon. As with the other County sites, testing at this location requires an appointment.

There is no up-front cost for testing. County residents do not need medical insurance to get tested. However, if you have health insurance, your insurance will be billed.

The increased access to community testing will help Contra Costa County reach its goal for easing social restrictions in the current stay-at-home order. Previously, tests were only offered for patients with COVID-19 symptoms.

What Can Re-Open?

This week, Governor Newsom outlined ways in which the State of California could begin moving into the early phase of Stage 2 of re-opening this Friday, May 8, allowing lower-risk workplaces such as some retail, manufacturing, and logistics businesses to re-open with adaptations.

However, the Governor's Executive Order acknowledges that while the state may begin moving into Stage 2, individual counties may move through re-opening at a different pace, and local health officers may still retain more restrictive measures within their jurisdictions.

In Contra Costa County, only the additional activities outlined in the most recent health order, in effect from May 4, will resume, unless the County Health Officer makes changes.

In line with the latest Public Health Order issued by Contra Costa County Health Services on April 29, as of May 4, the San Ramon skate park, tennis courts, and basketball courts are now open for use with specific social distancing measures. Sports requiring a ball should still be limited to people within the same household, and 6 feet of distance should be maintained from those outside your household.

Additionally, some businesses and activities are now able to resume with specific social distancing measures in place: construction, outdoor businesses such as landscaping, outdoor sports with no shared equipment such as golf (with social distancing still observed), real estate transactions, and small-group childcare/education programs.
