Project: 2020 Solid Waste & Recycling Contract, Services, and Rates
After thirteen years, the San Ramon Solid Waste & Recycling contract will expire next year, and the City will be selecting a vendor to commence service in October of 2019. A Request for Proposals was issued, and four competitive bids from reputable companies were received for staff and the City Council to evaluate.
On January 1, 2020, the start of the billing year for the new contract, rates will increase a minimum of $6 per month for 35-gallon cart single-family customers and a minimum of $8 per month for 35-gallon townhome and condominium customers. The rate increase is due to increased labor costs after thirteen years, a collapse in the recyclables market overseas and state-mandated new services for business and multi-family customers. Given the rate increase in the basic service level, the City Council would like to hear from the community about what features are important to residents.
Please join us at one of the two community meetings to hear more about the new contract and to express your opinion on the service level the community needs to keep San Ramon clean and green. If you are unable to attend, you can also submit your comments or questions in writing to SRSolidWaste@sanramon.ca.gov.
