The City Lights Volunteers play an integral role in making San Ramon a great place to live, work and play!  Without the support of the City Lights Volunteers, the Parks and Community Services would not be able to offer the volume of exceptional programs and events to the San Ramon community.  The department relies heavily on the volunteers, so please take a moment to become a volunteer and make a difference in your community!

Forest Home Farms Historic Park Volunteers

We are looking for adults who love local history and being outdoors. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of San Ramon's only historic park as you help elementary school children learn about life on a farm. Volunteers lead a variety of hands-on activities in the areas of canning and food preservation, gardening and farm chores. No experience is necessary...we provide lots of training and support. Volunteers also enjoy social gatherings and field trips to other historic sites. FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE!! Volunteer only two weekday mornings per month--or more. Register as a volunteer using the online form, sign up for the orientation or contact Suzy McCreary at (925) 973-3284 or smccreary@sanramon.ca.gov to schedule a time to visit the farm.

Senior Scholars

Do you have an interest in helping students, grades K-8, who are struggling in the classroom?  The Senior Scholars program is currently recruiting adults, ages 55+, to tutor these students and help make a difference in their lives.  The Senior Scholars tutors meet monthly to discuss the progress of the students, as well as review student applications that were submitted.  All students in the program must be performing below grade level and referred to the Senior Scholars program by a teacher or guidance counselor.  The tutoring schedule is based on the tutor’s schedule and is flexibly scheduled based on your availability.  A typical tutoring schedule is once per week for one hour.  All tutoring sessions must take place at the Alcosta Senior and Community Center prior to 5pm.  No teaching experience necessary – just an interest in helping a child succeed!  For more information or if you’re interested in joining the Senior Scholars, please contact Becky Adams at radams@sanramon.ca.gov or (925) 973-3273.
